Rere, Chile

Rere is a town in the commune of Yumbel, Province of Biobío, in the Biobío Region of Chile. It takes its name from the Moluche aillarehue that occupied both sides of the Claro River and was part of the Butalmapu between the Itata and Bio Bio Rivers. Governor Alonso de Ribera was the first to raise a fort here with the name of Nuestra Señora de la Buena Esperanza (Our Lady of the Good Hope) in 1603. The town was founded on that site in 1765 by governor Antonio de Guill y Gonzaga, and called Villa de San Luis Gonzaga de Rere.
